Atomizer Fuel System Maintenance and Aftercare
Air in your system is the enemy! To protect your fuel system and ensure peak performance, follow these essential steps after every race and during storage.
Post-Race Procedure: Prevent Aeration During Transport
Before hauling your vehicle home after a race:
-
Refill your fuel cell completely to the top.
-
Cap off the fuel cell vent.
This helps prevent air from entering and aerating your fuel system during transport.
Between Race Weekends
If your vehicle will sit for more than 7 to 10 days, follow these steps to keep your system race-ready:
-
Start the car for a couple of minutes upon returning home to ensure no aeration has occurred.
-
Turn the car off and top off the fuel cell.
-
Cap the vent on the fuel cell.
-
Start the vehicle once a week to circulate fresh fuel through the system.
Long-Term Storage and Maintenance
For storage longer than 10 days, or if you need to open the fuel system for maintenance:
-
Remove injectors from the intake.
-
Use a soft rubber-tip air gun to blow clean, compressed air into the tip of each injector. (Back-flushing will not damage the injectors; it simply removes all fuel.)
-
Spray a petroleum-based lubricant (we recommend PB Blaster) into the top of each injector.
-
Install the provided dust caps to seal the injectors and create a moisture barrier.
With these steps, your injectors can be safely stored for years without fear of corrosion.
Initial Start-Up: Using Our Injectors for the First Time
To ensure a successful first start:
-
Prepare new fuel lines to replace your fuel rails.
-
Run 5 gallons of fuel through the system with the return line disconnected and directed into a jug. Use a paint strainer to filter the fuel.
-
Clean the fuel rails thoroughly.
-
Reinstall the fuel rails and injectors.
-
Add clean fuel to your fuel cell.
-
Remove spark plugs and roll the engine over with ignition off to ensure no fuel is coming out of the spark plug holes.
-
Reinstall spark plugs and start the engine.
Additional Tips and Important Notes
-
Use lightweight ATF (automatic transmission fluid) on injector O-rings during installation.
-
Do not use WD-40; it is not petroleum-based and will not protect your injectors from corrosion.
-
Never pulse the injectors by adding voltage to clear them of fuel.
-
Check your 10-micron fuel filter after every race and replace it after every four races.
